E-MU 1616m PCIe.

The audio interface, EMU-1616m PCIe, has everything you need to get you started recording at home with a professional sound.

Here is a short description.

The E-MU 1616m PCIe system includes the MicroDock.
A mastering-grade system in a half rack-space, audio interface.

The MicroDock features .

– Two mic/line inputs with custom low-noise preamps with gain knobs ,

– an assignable headphone output,

– Optical & coaxial S/PDIF digital In/Out,

– 48V Power phantom for professional condenser Mics.


– An RIAA stereo turntable preamp,

– 6 balanced line level outputs,

– 2 sets of MIDI I/O ports,

– 3 stereo mini phone jacks for easy connection to powered speaker systems.

The E-MU 1616M PCIe system utilizes ultra-high performance 24-bit/192kHz A/D – D/A converters with automatic DC blocking to deliver an incredible 120dB of dynamic range.

The Control Panel of the 1616m is a full featured modular mixer.

Besides the drivers and the PatchMix (E-MU’s mixer), the 1616m is bundled with an impressive amount of great software that allows you to get started immediately.

Pros:

All the above.
E-MU 1616m PCIe hardware is very good. As a matter of fact, I’m using the E-MU 1820m (an older brother  of the E-MU 1616m PCIe) since 4 or 5 years and it still works perfectly.

Cons:

The Windows 7 driver is still a beta version. Since June 2010 for the PCI products, and October 2010 for the USB products.
While the ASIO driver works very well, some computers with more than 4 GB of memory, are having a few problems with the WDM driver, like a distorted, or some strange echo sound in the PLAYBACK, that is easily fixed by toggling  the frequency rate in the Session settings.
