Shannie Asked: Are Dell Laptops really that bad?

So I'm looking for a new laptop and I really like the Dell XPS 15 and I think it's a good laptop mainly I want it for gaming and multimedia the other laptop I was looking at was the Acer Aspire Ethos but I like the dell only being 15" makes it much more portable.
My boyfriend and a few of his friends are of the opinion that dell laptops suck because you can't upgrade them because of the parts Dell use? I thought laptops in general were difficult to upgrade? Is Dell really that much worse? Both laptops work out about the same price

These are the specs for the two laptops:

So my main question is would I really be that much worse off getting the Dell or are they pretty much the same. And I dont want a lot of answers being that I should get a desktop for gaming because that would be too impractical for my lifestyle all I want to know is which of these laptops is better and are they both quality gaming laptops aka will I be able to run practically anything on these.
If you have a suggestion of another laptop feel free to tell me in the answers but to consider a laptop i need it to have at least:
quad core processor
6gb ram
bluray reader (preferably writer)
1gb dedicated graphics
full HD screen.

You'll likely get different answers from different people.I think unfortunately, most of us only buy one or two laptops from a particular brand (such as Dell), and passing judgement on an entire company using a sample size of 1 is a bit difficult.

1) It is difficult to upgrade laptops. In theory, it is possible, but usually, the only things that are easily upgradable would be the hard drive and memory (RAM).I'd buy a laptop with the desired specs, and assume that it's not upgradable.

2) My last Dell laptop lasted 4+ years and is still going (although a bit beat up due to rough handling). However, again, it's hard to judge Dell laptop quality based on a single laptop.

As good as any other. Most problems arise due to user inability. Keep in mind, all you will upgrade are the hard drive or the memory which is typical. Never had a problem with them myself.

I think you better go with dell. I have recently bought a dell Inspiron 15r and it rocks. Its true that u cant upgrade your system but if you are looking for cheap quality notebooks then no one's better that dell.
And by the way check out the Alienware laptops(Best looking gaming laptops ever build)………I think u'll like it.

Hope this helped 🙂
