Sam Oxhorn Asked: What do I need to start recording music/ budget home studio?

So I have a guitar, a bass, a keyboard, and a mic. I havea decent enough pc and am upgrading soon. I want to be able to record in the most simplistic fashion possible. Should I runthe instruments directly into the computer? Do I need an an audio interface? Any advice on how to record these instruments through my computer would be much appreciated. The playback doesn't have to sound like it was crafted by lucifer and crafted over aeons… I just need decent enough playback for getting some tracks laid down. Thanks!

Unfortunately, if your audio output from the cinema system is stereo, you will only get stereo through the optical connection. It will be 2.1 played on all the speakers you connect. You cannot add more channels if it is not already injected into the audio stream.
