Audio Daddy Answered:
At a basic level an Audio interface and Sound Card do the same thing. they offer Audio input and Output capabilities to a computer. A Sound Card is usually a PCI card that needs to be installed in your PC. An audio interface is usually an external box that hooks up to your PC or Ma computer via USB or FireWire.
An Audio interface with a build in Audio preamp allows you to connect professional mics and instruments like guitars and keyboards.
If you are settng up a home studio, try to get an external Audio interface with built in Mic and instrument level inputs. GoogleM Audio they make decent and affordable audio interfaces.
